Since asthma is considered by the medical society in general to be a chronic ailment, there is no cure available for it. But just because you are not able to rid yourself of the condition doesn't mean you can't get rid of your attacks. This will simply mean that the condition is still there but it is at the level of near total control that attacks will almost be nonexistent; but just in case, keep a controller medication nearby always, you may never know when you might need it.

To get rid of your asthma, you are required to play an active role. You can never rely on your doctor alone as they can only give you your medications and treatments. The rest will be up to you. You can do lots of simple things such as avoiding smoky areas, cleaning the house to prevent dust accumulation, wearing a scarf when the weather is cold, and everything in between may not sound like much but actually has long term benefit. While you are taking your medication, you are also slowly strengthening your immune system.

The sooner you act; the sooner things will get better. Working along with your doctor can help them modify your asthma management plan into a better one. Carrying an asthma notebook with you and listing down the details of every asthma episode can help your doctor. Take down details of the attack. These include but are not limited to, duration of the attack, surrounding conditions, time it happened, what you may have eaten, and whether you were outdoors or not. Try to make it as detailed as possible.

Each person has his own asthma severity and no single treatment or medicine will work for all asthmatics. The only difference between those who have successfully managed their condition and those who have not is the level of cooperation and participation. Asthmatics have a role to play in the effectiveness of their treatments and medications. If they go out and frequently stay in smoking areas, for instance, their asthma will only get worse.

Asthma can be seen in two ways. It ca be a nuisance not worthy of attention, or a threat that needs to be taken seriously. Think about these things. Know where you stand when it comes to understanding your own condition. This is the first step you need to take before you can attain the relief that you have looked for in a long time. The more effort you put out, the less time it will take.
